The ordinances of June 9, 1728, did not distinguish between the types of gold made in Spain and the Indies. The first Indian pieces with this typology were made in Mexico by the assayer Felipe Rivas Angulo (F). Some examples are known to have the assayer’s and denomination’s data on either side of the coat of arms, while others lack these markings entirely, making them exceptionally rare pieces, such as the one we are presenting now.
