NumismáticaDuring the tumultuous years in Spain, Philip V managed to secure the duchies of Parma and Tuscany for his son Charles in 1723, while simultaneously deciding to abdicate in favour of his eldest son, Prince Louis. Following the premature death of Louis I (who reigned from January to August 1724), Philip V returned to the throne, initiating a significant shift in foreign policy by forging closer ties with the Empire through the Treaties of Vienna (1725). These saw former enemies accepting the status quo and relinquishing their respective claims. These coins were minted during the transitional moments marking the end of Philip V’s first reign and the beginning of the second. They serve as examples of the onza de cruz, featuring the new 1719 model and marked by the assayer Antonio de Cardeña (A).
