During the French invasion, loyal authorities to Ferdinand VII formed the Superior Junta of the Principality of Catalonia, temporarily established in Tortosa. On January 7, 1809, they ordered the minting of coins, appointing Juan Amat as the head of the Mint of Catalonia. This was a mobile mint: it initially operated in Reus (1809-1811), then in Tarragona (1811), and finally in Palma de Mallorca (1811-1814). Its marks included the letter "C" for Catalonia and the initials of the assayer, in our case, those of Pablo Sala and Juan Bautista Fernando (SF), who assayed the only issues of onzas from this mint (1813 and 1814).
