Following the conquest of Naples and the passing of Queen Isabella of Castile (1504), the coins of the Catholic Monarch minted in their patrimonial states reflect the new political landscape. Particularly notable are changes in titling and heraldry, as allusions to Castile where the king serves merely as governor on behalf of his daughter vanish. In this coin, we observe only the use of Aragonese royal titling and that of the Count of Barcelona, as it was minted in this city (B-B). The reverse shield showcases a tierced per pale bearing the arms of Aragon-Sicily, the dynastic pales, and the emblems of the conquered kingdom of Naples (a tierced of Hungary, Anjou, and Naples). Behind the effigy of the king is the shield of the Sánchez family, to which Gabriel belonged. Gabriel served as royal treasurer until September 17, 1505, succeeded by his son Luis, who retained the position for the rest of the Catholic Monarch's reign.
